Instructions for Authors
Submitted articles must not have been previously published, not be currently under review at another journal, and the author will not submit the material to another journal until the completion of the editorial decision process at Bearing Witness: Joyce Carol Oates Studies.
There are no fees or charges associated with submitting or publishing an aritcle.

Format and Style Requirements
Papers submitted to Bearing Witness: Joyce Carol Oates Studies should be in Microsoft Word, or RTF, and formatted according to the most recent edition of the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing.

Suggested length of articles: 5000 to 15,000 words.
Suggested length of book reviews: 750 to 1,500 words. (Book reviews are solicited only)
Suggested length of notes: 1,000 to 2,500 words.
All submissions are reviewed by the Editor; those accepted for further consideration will undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two members of the Editorial Board.
Copyright and Open Access
Authors retain copyright and grant to Bearing Witness: Joyce Carol Oates Studies the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License CC BY 4.0 that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
