Abstract

As president of the International Studies Association (ISA), Dr. Amitav Acharya helped to advance “global IR,” an explicitly interdisciplinary and multicultural approach to world affairs. In the inaugural keynote for the Spring 2021 Davies Forum, Making Sense of a Post-Western World: Interdisciplinary Tools, Global Perspectives, Dr. Acharya discusses how global IR can help to make sense of our emergent “multiplex” world of economic and institutional linkages, yet political and cultural diversity. Dr. Acharya assesses, moreover, whether the advent of this multiplex order has been accelerated by recent public health, social and political turmoil in the United States and Europe.
