Abstract
The food security program aims to reduce hypertension and food insecurity by increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Although food insecurity is a growing public health issue, the food security program experienced significantly low enrollment compared to projected values. The quality improvement project was conducted in an adult medicine department in a primary care clinic in San Francisco serving the Latinx community. To address the issue of low program enrollment, a comprehensive educational food security program flyer was developed containing program information, including frequently asked questions. The flyer aimed to increase program enrollments by increasing program education. Fifty flyers were distributed to Medical Assistants and the QI team tracked the number of enrollments via the program database. As a result, four flyers were distributed, and eleven patients were enrolled during the intervention period of October 31 to November 13, 2024. The data supports the importance of program awareness and the need for increased flyer dissemination to deliver standardized patient education.
