Abstract
As the population of older adults ages 65 years and older continues to increase in the United States, health concerns within this population continue to grow, especially since mental health remains a concern as older adults experience feelings of emotional distress, anxiety, loneliness, and depression. Those who identify as Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) are severely impacted, primarily due to the COVID-19 impacts and Asian Hate Campaigns. AAPI Older Adults have endured various hardships, including assimilating into Western cultures and cultural dissonance. Unfortunately, views on seeking mental health services to overcome negative emotions are looked down upon for Asian American Pacific Islanders. As a result, the City of Fremont and the Alameda County of Behavioral Health Care Services kickstarted an AAPI Older Adult Pilot Program within the Mobile Integrated Assessment for Seniors program to incorporate mental health methods with culture. This work presents an evaluation of the program. While this program displays significant results, there is still much to improve. Since the pilot program is still very new, improvements in information communication, collaboration, and modernization will still be made. In hopes of later expanding and sustaining the program, the City of Fremont must acknowledge and address the gaps to provide accurate and equitable services for the AAPI Older Adults.
