Artist Statement

Insufficient Memory examines a window of time from 1999 to 2000, when the Hate Crimes Prevention Act was first being debated in Congress (and not passed). In 2018 I discovered an old Sony Digital Mavica which was the first commercially successful digital camera sold in 1999 to 2000. This camera was considered groundbreaking technology because it shot ⅓-of-a-megapixel images to a 3.5-inch floppy. I began thinking about what was overlooked, invisible, or erased in the same moment as that digital camera began to revolutionize imaging and visibility.
