Abstract
In 1994, David Joiner became the first American to live and work in Bien Hoa, Vietnam, the location of the largest American air base during the war. He has contributed to two Fodor's™ guidebooks, including Fodor's™ Vietnam, and has published travel and culture articles in Vietnamese publications. The novel excerpt appearing here is his first published fiction, and he also has a story forthcoming in the Madison Review.
