John Guzlowski is retired from Eastern Illinois University, where he taught contemporary American literature and poetry writing. His poems often deal with his parents' experiences as slave laborers in Nazi Germany. His poems about them are collected in his books Lightning and Ashes, Third Winter of War: Buchenwald, and Language of Mules. He lives in Valdosta, Georgia.
