Abstract

For this project the aim was to educate staff on the etiology of CAUTIs and inform nursing staff on the proper use of the APA CAUTI prevention tool. The goal was to have 90% of staff pass a quiz by a score of 90% or above to ensure their learning needs were met. In addition, staff went through a mock simulation lab to test their knowledge, critical thinking skills, and teamwork skills on CAUTIs and the utilization of the APA prevention tool. The education material was provided to staff during in-services prior to their shift. I presented the material and explained the plan and goals of my project. The education material was developed from information I obtained from online journals and published material from online. A quiz was given after the in-service to test their understanding of the information. After this portion, staff members, two to three at a time, was place in simulation labs to put their knowledge to test in real life scenarios. Each staff member had different scenarios. The results of the quiz showed that 90% of the staff passed with 90% or above and the simulation lab, which was observed and not measured, showed that staff members had a better understanding of the etiology of CAUTIs and improved confidence of utilizing the ANA CAUTI prevention tool.
